Welcome to Creative -Actions, Experiential Movement Therapy workshops, developed by Andrew Krichels and Tom Wasik. At your Creative Action workshop you'll learn techniques designed to ground, release and integrate trauma; showing you how to live a more centered healing life ... oh and you'll have a lot of fun too!
The name is Creative-Actions, but what does creativity really mean? Everyone has a creative spark in them. If you've always believed "I'm not creative," don't worry, we'll help you become curious about your creativity, showing how to make it the foundation of life-long healing and growth.
And action? well that's because we're going to actually do stuff! This goal-oriented process will provide personalized tools and techniques to integrate into your daily life, giving you the means to continue life-long healing.
Tom Wasik, MFA, LCSW is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in private practice and an Onsite Group Leader and supervisor, employing creativity and experiential methods, including psychodrama, in transformative therapy. He is experienced in working with individuals, couples and groups, and those in recovery, and is trained in psychodramatic techniques. He is also an artist who is well aware of the healing potential inherent in the creative process.
Andrew Krichels has developed Experiential Movement Therapy through a lifetime of experience, training and passion for his core belief : move the body and the mind will follow. His early training at The Boston Conservatory of Music And SUNY Purchase produced a joint degree in Dance and Psychology. Andrew went on to a successful 25 year career with a dozen dance companies, and also taught on the faculties of Lincoln Center, Leonard Bernstein Center, The Grammy Foundations and many universities. He has appeared on Good Morning America, CNN, Bravo and PBS.
Andrew has always had a fascination with human behavior and what motivates us to navigate life’s challenges in a healing and effective way. Seeking relief from extreme dance injuries led him to advanced certifications in Pilates, Bowen Therapy, and Medical Qi Gong. Andrew has also completed a 7-year training at the Estuary School of Healing Arts earning degrees in Auric Healing, Kabalistic Studies and Pastoral Counseling.
Andrew is an alumni of Naropa University’s prestigious Authentic Leadership Program. For his thesis he developed a series of workshops, and these became the foundation of Experiential Movement Therapy. Building on his experience developing Experiential Movement Therapy workshops at The Estuary, Onsite, The Recovery Ranch and YANA, Andrew and his partners launched Creative-Actions, a new workshop company based in Nashville, TN.
The goal is to joyfully lead participants to finding and maintaing their center, collaborating with others through the creative process and honing techniques to live a grounded, centered life in a continuously healing body.
“The body always leads us home... if we can simply learn to trust the sensation and stay with it long enough for it to reveal appropriate action, movement, insight, or feeling.”
The Right Next Step Group
A unique combination of movement, body work, and experiential therapy--NOT a dance or exercise class!
Workshops address desired life changes through movement, experiential and psychodramatic therapeutic techniques.
The essentials of Experiential Movement Therapy are covered in every workshop. Each workshop is tailored to specific needs and can be modified in length.
Finding and maintaining a true Center
Chinese Medical Qi Gong, visualization and breathing techniques are used to purge anxiety and trauma blocks. Each participant then selects several specific exercises to create a bespoke daily practice.
Locating Personal Triggers
Our bodies remember everything and give us warning signs like lights on the dashboard. Participants will experience and learn many techniques including body correctives and core work, to find trigger points before they cause injury. Locating one’s triggers and developing simple release mechanisms promotes a life of action rather than reaction.
After establishing one’s own center, we can relate to another person in an authentic way. Breaking out into small groups a variety of activities such as writing, body movement, and drawing, we map our experiences to discover the Next Right Step. Small groups create intertwined walking maps of their experiences, being centered and grounded on their own path, and sharing it through the creative process with in a trusted community.
While dealing with serious personal, spiritual, and societal issues one can have fun, laugh, and embrace their inner child. The workshop culminates in a Festival of jointly created artistic composition, with each participant contributing within their own comfort zone.
